• County staff shared a presentation with the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners that outlines a portion of their plans for implementing Zero Waste in response to a resolution that will close the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center between the dates of 2028-2040. A full report on the transition plan will be released to the commissioners on Feb. 1.

• County staff has identified the need to work with state, county and city leadership on a multi-year campaign to pass legislative priorities that they have identified as necessary to implement Zero Waste. All 45 cities will need to revise their municipal waste ordinances.

• The county has named the Minneapolis Pollution Control Agency as a key partner in shaping legislative priorities and enforcing the laws once they are passed.

• Of the 22 legislative priorities that the county has proposed, 4 of them will be introduced in the 2024 legislative session.
