According to CPS, the Community Action Councils (CACs) “consist of 25 to 30 voting members who are directly involved in developing a strategic plan for educational success within their communities”

These members range from parents to elected officials

The headline on http://EnglewoodPortal.org features a plea from residents asking for the ceasing of Sex Offenders being “dumped” into the Englewood Community. Check here http://www.englewoodportal.org/news/13097

The Englewood CAC created the proposals for the new High School given that there are 4 STEM elementary schools in Englewood (more than any other Chicago community).

They wanted the new HS to be a STEM school as it just made sense. They did face pushback from the community.

Tiffany Seay is presenting on STEM programming in Chicago Public Schools.

Mission driven, school culture, institutional capacity, and the instructional approach are pillars of the STEM Enriched Practices.

Seay says STEM is in every facet of education

samantha @OnYourCallender 7/23

Access to up-to-date technology is also critical to STEM programming and student success in CPS.

Diverse K-12 programming, STEM career pathways, and family and community engagement are also essential pillars of STEM Enriched Practices in CPS.

samantha @OnYourCallender 8/23

Seay says Englewood has a very robust professional development program that was developed by itself.

Funding for STEM programming focuses on both programming in schools and also professional development opportunities.

Seay says finding pathways for STEM HS students is key. Whether it’s college placement to further their degree or access to career certification, they encourage and support advance studies in STEM for students.
